NOTICE LETTERS SENT TO AFFECTED RESIDENTS FEBRUARY 2023:

Contractors will soon be working in your area to rehabilitate or replace the sanitary sewer main that services your property. You will be notified by contractors or DPW staff prior to any sanitary sewer use restrictions or interruptions in service. Details regarding restrictions will be included in the notice of interruption.

Over the last few years East China Township has inspected the sanitary sewer mainlines throughout the collection system. We assessed the conditions of our piping network to ensure reliable service to our residents and to comply with state regulations. Although repairs to the system may have already been made at or near your home, our engineers have determined that comprehensive rehabilitation/replacement is needed to ensure that the system continues to operate efficiently, and without interruption.

The project has been broken up into multiple phases to mitigate disruption to the sanitary sewer service. This should limit disturbances to the utility easement adjacent to your property.

The three projected phases are as follows:

PHASE 1:        Complete structure replacement of one sanitary sewer “utility access hole” and its connecting pipe segments.

REASON:        Over time, unstable ground has allowed the structure to settle, causing a low point in the connecting pipes. These low points allow debris to settle in the pipe causing buildups and eventually blockages in the sanitary sewer main.

PHASE 2:        Utilizes a “Trenchless Pipe Lining” method to repair cracks and leaking pipe joints in conjunction with rehabilitation of existing utility access hole structures.

REASON:        This method allows structural rehabilitation of the pipe without large scale excavations. Excavation may be required at certain service connections to the sewer main.

PHASE 3:        Upgrade three sanitary sewer pump stations.

REASON:        The upgrades include new pumps with increased pumping capacity, structural improvements, and updated control panels.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work together towards the completion of this project. For questions regarding this sanitary sewer project, please leave a message at (810)-765-8879 ext. 131. We will return your call as soon as possible.
